Didier van Cauwelaert
Didier van Cauwelaert is a French novelist, playwright, lyricist, screenwriter and film director. He has published some 40 works and sold more than 5 million copies. His works have been translated into more than 30 languages. He has written seven film scripts and directed two comedies.
Van Cauwelaert has won many literary awards, including the Prix Del Duca, prix Nimier and the prestigious prix Goncourt. He is a popular writer and was awarded a prize for his entire career by the Théâtre de l’Académie Française.
He has written the book and lyrics of Marcel Aymé’s Le Passe-Muraille to great success in France (winner, Molière Award), the United States (Amour in Jeremy Sams' translation, Tony award nomination) and Asia, to music by Michel Legrand. His other musicals with the late Michel Legrand include Dreyfus, which was performed at the Opera house in Nice, and l'Amour Fantome, still to be produced.
