Una McKevitt is a writer and director of original work for theatre and an Associate Artist at Project Arts Centre, Dublin since 2009. Previous work includes Victor & Gord (2009), Singlehood (2012) and Alien Documentary which premiered at The Dublin Theatre Festival 2016 and was the 2017 recipient of The Stewart Parker New Writing Award. Alien Documentary toured to Leeuwarden in May 2018 as part of the European Capital of Culture Festival with support from Culture Ireland. Her original work for Theatre has played at large commercial venues including Vicar Street and The Olympia Theatre.
With comedian and actor PJ Gallagher Una has co-written Separated at Birth (2015) and Madhouse (2018). Based on the circumstances of PJ’s unusual upbringing in Marino, Madhouse was a critical and commercial success when it premiered during Dublin Fringe Festival at The Abbey Theatre on The Peacock Stage. In 2019 Madhouse completed an extensive and sold out National Tour directed by Una McKevitt and was set to transfer to Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre before the Coronavirus Pandemic shut down the sector. Una has worked as a director with renowned European theatre makers Rimini Protokoll as well as with comedians Maeve Higgins (Moving City 2013) and Joanne McNally (Bite Me 2016).
In June 2021 her play One Good Turn premiered on The Abbey stage, Dublin to a live stream audience.
