Mike Ockrent (1946–1999) was a British stage director, well-known both for his Broadway musicals and smaller niche plays. He was educated at Highgate School. Through directing Educating Rita, The Nerd and Follies, he became an established figure in London theatre. In 1986 he made a successful transition to Broadway with Me and My Girl, which earned several Tony Award nominations. Other theatre directing credits included A Christmas Carol, Big and King David. His novel Running Down Broadway was published in 1992. The same year, Ockrent conceived and directed Crazy For You®, choreographed by Susan Stroman. Ockrent and Stroman were married in 1996. They collaborated on several projects and remained married until Ockrent’s death from leukemia in New York in 1999.
