Richard Levinson

Richard Levinson entered the world of commercial jingles after penning Burt Reynolds’s novelty hit “Let’s Do Something Cheap and Superficial” many, many years ago, heaping praise on beers, wines, banks, brokers, shopping malls, car dealers, supermarkets, California Eggs, and the LSU women’s basketball team.  To atone for this, he writes comedy music and satiric songs, some of which have appeared in productions by MTV, National Lampoon, Fox/HBO and Disney Television, and on the Dr. Demento radio show. He also has contributed not-funny songs to many films and TV shows, including True Blood, Raising Hope, Treme, Men of a Certain Age, Bored to Death, Wilfred, and Longwire. His songs for the Honky-tonk musical Savin’ Up for Saturday Night (published by Samuel French) earned him an Ovation nomination for best music and lyrics from the Los Angeles Stage Alliance.  Mr. Levinson also performs regularly as an actor, piano player, and/or musical director, and has been a part of many award winning productions, including the long running Los Angeles hit Louis and Keely Live at the Sahara!, and Peace in Our Time, which was recently described by the Los Angeles Times as one of the ten best productions in the world.
