Summary
The joyful, bubbly story of Oh, Boy! concerns the befuddled George, who elopes with Lou Ellen, a judge’s daughter, against the wishes of both her parents and his relatives. George’s dapper polo-playing friend Jim is in love with madcap actress Jackie, whom newly-wed George foolishly allows to hide in his house in order to avoid arrest for having assaulted a policeman.
History
The most successful of the famous Princess Theatre musicals, Oh, Boy! opened at the Princess Theatre on February 20, 1917, starring Tom Powers, Marie Carroll, Hal Forde and Anna Wheaton. It later transferred to the Casino Theatre and played for a total of 463 performances. After its Broadway run, the show was mounted in London at the Kingsway Theatre in January, 1919 under the title, Oh, Joy!. That production played for 167 performances.
