A CONCORD THEATRICALS TITLE
Short Musical, Dramatic Comedy / 6w, 2boy(s)
Inspired by the story “True Friend” by Nancy Gilliam, which originally appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul – Teens Talk Middle SchoolBook, Lyrics and Music by Ronvé O’DanielMusic by Jevares C. Myrick
Lexi has just arrived at a new school, ready to make a fresh start. Her new friend group challenges her to do things she doesn’t want to, and she is forced to look deep in herself and decide who she really is.
The Chicken Soup for the Soul Musical Series was written specifically for teens and as a result there are no adult characters parts. The shows were created to be “casting-flexible” and so any of the parts can be cast multi-racially. In addition, it is our goal to involve as many students in the productions as possible and so you are encouraged to expand the chorus to whatever size works for you.
This show is about race and bullying. One of the main conflicts in the story is that the lead character Lexi has to choose between being in a group with people of her own race and falling in love with a boy from another race.
We encourage you to adapt the casting to your situation but it is crucial that Lexi and Jackson are different races.
In addition this show has allot of ensemble parts that can be doubled up.
