Josh Roche
Josh Roche is the winner of the JMK Award 2017, the UK’s most prestigious
award for directors under 30, directing My Name is Rachel Corrie at the
Young Vic, edited by Alan Rickman & Katherine Viner, starring Erin
Doherty. He has directed over twenty productions, including Pressure
by David Haig (The Royal Alexandra, Toronto); Home by David Storey
(Chichester Festival Theatre); Orlando by Lucy Roslyn (59E59, New
York); Winky by George Saunders (UK Premiere, Soho Theatre);
Radio by Al Smith (Audible UK); Plastic by Kenny Emson (Poleroid
Theatre) and No Particular Order by Joel Tan (Theatre503). In 2016 he
directed the opening of the World Shakespeare Congress at the Royal
Shakespeare Congress, and directed Judi Dench, Sir Ian Mckellen,
Rory Kinnear, Tim Minchin, Paapa Essiedu, Benedict Cumberbatch,
David Tennant, Harriet Walter and Prince Charles in the televised event
Shakespeare Live! He was assistant director for the RSC, Shakespeare’s
Globe and on the West End. Josh was formerly literary associate at
Soho Theatre. He is the co-founder of the national OpenHire campaign,
which advocates for transparent hiring processes in UK theatre.
