Gail Young

Gail Young has directed and acted with community theatre groups for many years in the Chester and Wirral area of NW England. She turned her hand to writing in 2005, taking her first full-length play, Cheshire Cats, to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2006. The production was a “Fringe Sell-Out Show,” and was published by Samuel French in 2011. It has since been performed worldwide, translated into other languages, inspiring performing groups to raise amazing funds for their chosen charities.

Her second full-length play, Bothered and Bewildered, premiered in October 2014, and has also gone on to be performed up and down the UK and abroad. The play concentrates on a family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s, and again performing groups often choose to combine the comedy drama onstage with fund raising for their chosen good causes.

The world of sport features in Bouncing Back, a lively comic look at the world of women returners to the sport of Netball. Gail had a lot of fun shadowing a team of netballers as part of her research for this physical play about team dynamics.

Head over Heels is her latest comedy drama, a hilarious look at the world of ‘Silver Splitters’ – otherwise known as retired divorcees – where, yet again, Gail manages to inject both humour and pathos into a very serious subject.

All of the above plays have social conscience and focus on the problems and issues that face women, families and friends in modern times.
